  1. It sounds like our daughters are similar! I have a lot of friends who homeschool, and I remember talking to a non-homeschooling friend about my own indecision about it. At the time, I was just longing for 6 hours of silence in my life, and sending my kids to school sounded heavenly. My friend said that by the time they were school aged, not so needy, i wouldn’t feel the need to get rid of them so much. She was right. It’s been a struggle, but I know that homeschooling is right for our family – and our kids – and even when I fail, I know the benefits are still there. I also have friends who ‘unschooled’, and their kids transitioned into public high school perfectly – with more friends than I ever had as a public schooler. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to succeed at specific things! Have fun!!
I’m using the Son light curriculum too, but not following the schedule at all – just going through the books at our own pace.

  2. I enjoyed your Periscope today and a peak in your classroom. I feel sad I wasn’t able to homeschool mine when they were young. Your daughter is so precious.

Yes Kayse up at the top of the list of reasons to homeschool is “winning your child’s heart” Along with “being the primary investor in your child”. And you’re right it isn’t for everyone. You do need to do what is best for YOUR family. A motto to consider, “if He called you to it, He will equip you for it.” Enjoy the ride. It’s a good one.

Today is my father’s 67th birthday! (: (: My family all live half a country a way in Arizona, and I miss them SOOO incredibly much- but most especially on holidays, like their birthday!

Hope your husband has an amazing day as well!

  5. “Honestly, my hope this year is to win my daughter’s heart. I struggle to find a balance of discipline and fun with my strong-willed, talkative, energetic girl.” –> THIS is where I am with Ben. I get it. So much.

Enrolling my kids in a private, small, classical school was so out of my box. But I found such freedom in knowing a schooling decision isn’t forever. Cate just started her fourth year there and Ben his third. It’s still the right thing for us now, but that doesn’t mean it will be forever.

I love your honesty and heart in this post.
