I got this text from a friend today: Hey, what do you use to keep your files organized?
To which I replied: We use this very advanced system called “A Box Of Papers”.
Perhaps you use the same system?
We’ve lived in this house for almost 3 years now, and I have purged a LOT. I’ve simplified, I’ve donated, I’ve tossed, and STILL, we have a serious clutter problem. It’s better than it used to be, by FAR, but it’s not what I’d call “well-organized” yet, and I’m still tripping over toys that don’t fit into drawers, and I still can’t find that important paper I need.
This summer, my big plan is this: CLEAR THE CLUTTER FOR GOOD.
I’m focusing on 4 main projects: kid clutter, stuff clutter, kitchen clutter, & schedule clutter. And I’ve come up with my plan of attack! If you’re in the same boat, I’d love to share my plan with you. Maybe we can be clutter-clearing friends!
How we’re going to clear the clutter for good:
Project 1: Kid Clutter
The TOYS, you guys. The toys! And honestly, the books. I plan to seriously purge the kids’ toys, and keep only the things that inspire imaginative play & critical thinking. Plus, we have a backyard. Play outside, children!
Focus Resource: Cozy Minimalist Mom, by Myquillyn Smith
The Nester knows what she’s talking about when it comes to a simple, organized home. I’ve started her course for moms, and it’s BRILLIANT, you guys. With this course, I really feel like clearing the kid clutter is possible!
Description: Are you ready to take back the house? Learn about systems that actually work, which things that can be ignored, where to start, & what works for your family where clutter is concerned. Super practical, packed with tips you can implement right away!

Project 2: Stuff Clutter
Paper & linens & books, oh my! (Again, I have a book problem.) We also have a shoe problem, and entryway problem, and a mail problem. I’m making a list of each area in my home that needs to be attacked, and making a plan to control (or get rid of) all the stuff that takes up our precious space.
Focus Resource: 31 Days to a Clutter Free Life, by Ruth Soukup
Ruth, from Living Well, Spending Less, is the queen of organization. In our last home, I worked through this 31 day clutter challenge, and it was so helpful. Each short chapter focuses on one area of your home & comes with an easy assignment that packs a big punch. I love this book! I’m excited to work through it again!
Description: Get inspired and empowered to clear your life of the clutter that is filling up your home, mind, and schedule, once and for all with 31 Days to a Clutter Free Life.
Price: $7.99 (See below on how you can get it for just 24 cents!)
Project 3: Kitchen Clutter
We’ve been in a serious rut lately when it comes to dinner. I’ve been making the same 5 things over and over again, and we’re a little bored. I’ve got no new ideas, and not a lot of time to cook every night. My plan? Freezer meals! Make them ahead, pop them in the crockpot each morning. I cut down on dishes, on mess, AND I save a little in the budget by planning ahead!
Focus Resource: Slow Cooker Freezer Meals Vol. 1&2, by Tiffany King
I’m a huge fan of freezer meals, and I LOVE that these meal plans provide an entire week’s worth of dinners that I can prep in an hour or less. Then, I can pull them out of the freezer in the morning, put them in the crockpot, and have a homemade dinner ready by 5pm! Plus? These recipes are delicious!
Description: Slow Cooker Freezer Meals Vol. 1&2 includes 24 meal plans, each with 6 dinners and side dish suggestions, plus color-coded grocery lists, assembly instructions and tips!
Price: $19.94 (See below on how you can get it for just 60 cents! Seriously!)
Project 4: Schedule Clutter
We’re in our busiest season in the Pratt house right now. I’m working a lot, Jon’s in the middle of his end-of-the-year concerts, and we’re just plain busy. Starting next week, I’m planning to, again, work through the process I use every time we get overwhelmed. I’ll clear the calendar, set our priorities for this season, and create a functional routine that works for our family right now. Guarding our family schedule is so important – we need family time, white space, and rest, even (especially!) during our busiest seasons!
Focus Resource: Stop Settling For Overwhelmed, by me!
I’ve spent the last few years refining this process of resetting our schedule, establishing our priorities, and creating a flexible routine that works for the season that we’re in. I go back through these steps at least twice a year, and it always helps me focus in on the important things, and keep our family healthy.
Description: Stop Settling For Overwhelmed is a simple, 10-day course that will gently help you take a serious look at what season you’re in, nail down your priorities, and design a personalized routine that works for you & your family.
Price: $17.99 (See below on how you can get it for just 53 cents! This is not a joke!)
Working through each of these projects may take me a few weeks, but I know it will pay off! An organized home is such a blessing to our family – and really? It’s such a relief for me! When everything has a spot, and we aren’t dealing with clutter on a daily basis, our home life just runs so much more smoothly. Or at least, I’m imagining it will!
