Since getting married, moving three times, having two kids, spending quite a bit of time in the hospital, and being generally inept at keeping my house clean, you could easily say I’ve been overwhelmed by life. (This may go down in history as the biggest understatement ever.) I often feel like I know what I want my life to look like, but I can’t figure out how to get there.
I lived like that for a long time, floundering at many things and always, always, always feeling behind.
And then, I made one simple change.
Instead of living overwhelmed, I sat down and actually looked at everything on my plate. I wrote it all out. I made lists, said yes to some things and a whole lot of no’s to other things, and prayed desperately for direction.
In just a few days, I’d cleared my previously overfilled plate to something I could now manage. And it freed me up to rest more, love bigger, and actually enjoy my life in that season.
I’ve come back to this process time and time again when life gets overwhelming. It helps me clear my head and make the difficult choices I need to make in order to live the life God’s called me to live. This process has made a huge difference in my stress-level and my ability to actually live peacefully. And I know it will make the same difference for you!
