Thank you for this encouragement just what I needed to hear.

  2. Kayse – glorious! What a wonderful reminder of setting the example. I’m not a yeller – I tend to stuff it – but that’s not always good either. Here’s to setting the right example for our kids! Sharing!

  3. This is just exactly the kind of day my 7 yr old & I had. Only wish I had read this sooner… great encouragement

  4. This was so needed today. It seems lately I can’t stop yelling and I see the emotional trauma it brings my children. I have been praying and trying to get it back under control. I want my kids to see Jesus through me and yelling just don’t cut it. Great post!

  5. I think you peeked in on the conversation I have frequently with my 3 year old! 🙂 I, too, thought I was laid back … until I had TWO kids and jealousy kicked in for No. 1. I’ve only recently found that early morning devotions (instead of afternoon) have helped me to stay calm. I’ve also started laying my hands on my daughter in prayer at night after she’s asleep. I’m excited to see how God moves. Great post!

  6. I don’t have children to discipline yet (baby is still growing in me! 🙂 ), but I can see my own childhood and personality in the way you described yours. My parents’ discipline was very grace-filled, yes, but not as much Gospel-filled. It was more “do what I say because I’m your mom and I know what’s best for you.” Obviously I knew that it was important to be obedient because that’s what God tells us to do and he knows what’s best… but again, it was much more law-oriented than grace-oriented. And that mindset has stuck with me into adulthood. That’s not what I want for my children, at least not completely. Obviously there are times when the law is necessary. But it’s so important for us to remember that we can do no good thing without God… and that he delights to help us do that good because he loves us!

    Thank you for this. <3

  7. I just loved reading this and could completely relate. I had a similar situation in that my husband was my first boyfriend and we followed along with what you said. God has taught me so much in this area! I am learning that parenting is harder than I thought and I really need God daily. Thanks for linking with Tuesday Talk! I look forward to reading more!

  8. Popping over from the Tuesday Talk linkup – this was a great post! Sometimes it’s hard not to get frustrated and angry when your kids don’t listen or misbehave, but your actions proved that yelling isn’t always the best.

  9. Oh you and me both, friend. I get this post. I get the rule-following ways that choose justice over grace too often. And I get the yelling. I’m so grateful God doesn’t leave us there but continues to shape us.
